Blind nailing Blind nailing is nailing that is done in a way that the heads cannot be seen on the work's surface. Masonry Nails Masonry nails are very hard nails used for fixing things to concrete, brick or masonry. They are usually a shiny silver color. Be careful when hammering them in as you may create a spark if you hit them hard with a hammer. Nails To drive a nail into a piece of wood, start off using gentle taps with the hammer until the nail is firmly seated. Removing Nails You will find it easier to remove large nails with a claw hammer if you place a block of wood under the hammer. It also helps prevent the hammer damaging the wood that the nail is being removed from. Small Nails It is not very easy to hold a small nail without hitting your fingers with the hammer unless you use a piece of thin card to hold the nail for you. Push the nail through the card and then hold the card while you hammer in the nail. When the nail is firmly seated you can remove the card. Split If you try to drive more than one nail along the same grain of a piece of wood you risk splitting the wood.
