UK House Buyers Glossary - HThis page of our online a to z glossary is for UK house buyers terms beginning with the letter 'H'.
- Half-timber Work - a method of house construction in which the walls are made of timber frames with the openings filled in with brickwork.
- Header - the end or short face of a brick, as it shows in the face of a wall. The long face is called the "stretcher."
- Hipped Roof - a pitched roof, the end of which is also sloped back, meeting the sides in a pair of hips.
- Homebuy schemes - these are run by Housing Associations to sell off their houses.
- Homebuyer's report - this is a less detailed survey of the condition of a house than a full structural survey. Since it is less detailed, it is less expensive but will give you an indication of the condition of a house.
- Household insurance - an insurance policy which provides cover for the building and the contents of the building.
- Housing Association - this is a non-profit-making organisation which provides rental accommodation.
